IDN demystified

IDNs are worthless, the traffic is worthless.

Continuing the Mythbusting series from here..

One of the most common myths I hear is that international traffic is worthless, or at least not worth chasing.

While it’s true that many factors come into play to determine value, it certainly isn’t true that ALL international traffic is worthless.

I could write a long post and batter you into submission with a ton of facts and case studies and logic of why that is.. but sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

The following chart represents some random keywords I ran through Googles Keyword tool

I picked 7 words/phrases in English and in Japanese and plotted the Average CPC according to Google.

This is a fascinating game to play, and when I have time I’ll run a similar exercise but comparing a group of languges side by side for the same keyword – but even with a small subset of data like this you can see how the story really unfolds.
