New to IDN?
This isn’t your usual blog with a ton of random daily entries to get lost in.
If you are looking for a daily dose of IDN then you should check out IDNforums.com
Think of this blog as more of a time capsule; me going on record showing you the value proposition of an IDN. When I have said all that is worth saying, I will stop posting, seal the time capsule and let fate be the judge.
The IDN community has had a chequered background; prior to the creation of a dedicated IDN forum, domainers who saw the big picture, would post about the unravelling IDN story on some of the popular domain forums – but they were often met with abuse, and at best were treated with contempt.
Even the Domain King himself without taking a closer look, branded IDNers “Moonies”, said all IDN’s were worthless and banned from his private forum anyone who had ever uttered I-D-N.
Pretty harsh huh?
It’s funny how things turn out. In the few years that would follow, a relatively small number of domainers were left unhindered to scoop up the best of the best generics – thank you Domain King, thank you “haters”.
People have speculated what was behind all that “hate”, – fear of losing traffic? or is it simply ignorance?
If it was ignorance, then in laying out the value proposition in this blog, I should be able to address that.
Ever since the first domainer made his first $million in the dot com boom, folks who missed out on the 90’s gold-rush have been looking for the next “big thing”, the next “gold rush”.
If you believe the next big thing can be found in land-rushing Facebook URL’s or in the plethora of .pumpanddump extensions designed to milk domainers wallets; then keep on walking by.
But there are an increasingly large number of people who have taken the time to look closer, and with IDN now top of every agenda at ICANN, and the predictions made a few years ago that were so quickly dismissed by many about traffic and aftermarket value, now materialising, it’s getting harder and harder to ignore IDN – for these early pioneers, judgement day is nearly upon them and they are set to go down in history as either the biggest fools on the internet or the biggest winners since the 90’s land rush.
The reality is, it doesn’t matter what I or anyone else says, the fate of IDN will be determined by the people.
Whatever your domain investment strategy, I wish you luck in your ventures.
